Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange data between a hosting server and a client. Because the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of controlling a website hosting account. The commands which may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the alternatives are limited since you'll not have root access to the server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They're all actions which are performed within the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to install server-side software or to restart the server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting

SSH access is provided with all cloud web hosting which we offer you. With some of them, it's provided as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can add with several mouse clicks in your website hosting CP. You may get SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you will also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to pick the password that you will use and, if required, you'll be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same place. All commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is offered as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you may add it through the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the feature with only one click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you may input the password you want to use, as it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you need. The full list of the commands that can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a number of instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you obtain a new VPS server from our company, it shall feature full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature is provided as standard with all packages, so you won't have to allow or upgrade anything. Your web server shall be set up shortly after you buy it and the moment you receive the Welcome e mail with the login details, you may connect using the server’s main IP address and begin working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there will be no restrictions in terms of the commands which you can use. You will have full root access, so that you may install and run any app which can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software running on it.
